Town of Summit Receives Grant to Crack Down on Speeders

The Town of Summit will receive a $12,000 grant to crack down on speeding, aggressive driving and other dangerous actions that cause traffic crashes. The grant, administered by the Wisconsin State Patrol Bureau of Transportation Safety, will be used to fund officer’s overtime and enforcement equipment.

According to Lt. Jeff Zachow, speeding is prevalent and deadly on Wisconsin roadways. More than 250 people died and more than 7,000 were injured in speed-related crashes in 2006. There were nearly one-quarter million speeding convictions in Wisconsin in 2006. In 2007, the Town of Summit alone had 5 fatal vehicle crashes in which speed was definitely a factor.

With more officers patrolling our roadways for longer periods of time, we are striving to get drivers to comply voluntarily with the posted speed limits and other traffic laws in an attempt to prevent crashes. “Our goal is not to write more speeding tickets. However, if voluntary compliance fails, we will not hesitate to enforce speed limits and other traffic laws. A citation is very costly monetarily, but the real price you pay for exceeding speed limits is endangering your life and the lives of everyone else on the road.”

Please slow down and drive safely!

Town of Summit Enacts Emergency Slow-No-Wake Ordinance for the waters of Lower and Middle Genesee Lakes

The Town of Summit Board adopted an Emergency Slow-No-Wake Ordinance on April 29, 2008 to be effective immediately on Lower and Middle Genesee Lakes. Due to the seasonal melting and rainy conditions, the ground is saturated with water and the lakes are over their capacity.

With the upcoming opening fishing weekend bound to bring increased boat traffic, the Town felt it necessary to enact this ordinance to protect the property owners as well as the Town roads that surround these two lakes. The ordinance will be posted at the boat launches and the Police Department will be strictly enforcing this ordinance.

The Slow-No-Wake will be in effect until the waters receded and the Town Board and Police Department feel it is no longer detrimental to the surrounding properties.
